Some questions before I start
Hello,
I'm new to the forum and very happy I found it. Looks like a great community.
I want to convert a 1991 Daihatsu Rocky 4x4 (short model). It's a very lightweight body. I have one now that my girlfriend uses. She is a horse trainer and uses the car mainly to go to clients in the area where we live, not doing more than a 150 km a day (Belgium is only 300km wide). From time to time she has to pull a horse trailer (small european version, not those long heavy American ones) that weighs about 600kg empty and 1400 with two horses on.
I can't find any tests being done with electric cars that have to pull weight.
So my questions are:
1. What electric motor would be good for pulling a trailer without using the resources in a short period of time so there is no loss in distance. (if possible at all)
2. Can I have the electric motor power the 4x4 when needed. This is only a few times a year when you find yourself in those muddy places where horses are.
3. Has anyone tested their electric car pulling a trailer with a lot of weight on?
As you will understand, I would love to have a fuel free car that does nearly everything I do now with my 4x4. Let's not think about the cost of more expencive electric motors, just would like to know if it is possible. Then we can look at the price.
Thanks!
Erik.
