This is my end of year print out of overall motoring costs.
The top section shows the past year's costs and the second section the costs during my ownership of the car. As this is my first year with the Jazz they are both the same here.

I just started doing this with my "new" car! Every penny I spend on it is recorded in a spreadsheet. It needs a little revising and formatting before it is done, but I will share it once I get it dialed in. I thought about starting a second one for fuel only, but ecomodder seems to to that for me already!

It took me several years to get what I wanted, first on paper then on computer. It is better to record more than you need rather the not enough. You can always discard info if it is superfluous.

Thanks for the advice JockoT.
Right now I am tracking mileage at fill up, date, $, and a few notes. From this I calculate lifetime miles, tank mpg, lifetime mpg, and lifetime $.

Is there any other data you would recommend I record, starting off with a new* car?

I note mileage at service points, tyre replacement and major repairs.
You can see my annual print out, above.

I think that's a great idea. I started tracking every repair and purchase too, that way I can keep tabs my total costs.
Thanks JockoT!

Do you share his attitudes about peace with Germany and the Arabs?

...and alcohol?

Yes, I'm an ex-nautical warrior like he was...and...alcohol should be bottled & bonded and "sipped" not burned in engines.

Just remember that "V" is a fore-finger away from how many people feel (not referring to proctologists, however).
