Spill plate question

Hello all,

another question regarding spill plate design.

Please see photo below, why are the front wing spill plates this shape???

To add downforce in front. The plates on the sides are probably to aid in straight line stability.

I'm pretty sure he means why they have that curved shape cut from them. Styling, maybe?

the long vertical edge below the chord reduces the spill round from the high pressure top surface, they are so long it make me wonder if he's trying to cut ambient pull-in, nee ground effecting the front chord.

As for the plate above the chord, I guessing it for flow reduction. at 315+ the frontal area and normal spill plate sides mixed with Hi speed laminar flow above the chord would box in the air effectively creating a parachute effect. At those higher speed the lower surface can generate a lot through a diffuser effect so you don't need the air on the top, so I'm guessing they're bleeding it out at the sides.

I will add one more consideration to what's been posted.
If the car and driver were placed on a turntable,with the C.G. directly over the pivot point and a large and powerful air blast were directed from either side of the car,the aerodynamic loads acting on either side of the pivot would be 'balanced' by the spill plates.S.W.A.G.!
The palm trees got me thinking about what would happen during a run if a crosswind gust were to 'pop' the car.
