It's more of a moral/ethical issue for me. I may be in a position to do it, and it's becoming more difficult to support a 29-year old vehicle.
The added weight isn't a game changer. At 97% thermodynamic efficiency, compared to a possible 36% for Toyota's 4-banger, the motor will shrug off the weight, and harvest back 81% of the kinetic energy of braking, presently completely lost with the ICE.
We're talking 140-mpg-e HWY as a BEV.
