Still getting ****ty mpgs

My mileage is slowly getting better. I do the coasting and slow accelerating. I also did an warm air intake and blocked the upper grille from the inside. Is there any other usefull trick?

I saw one here...65+ Vehicle modifications for better fuel economy - EcoModder.com

And a couple here...100+ Hypermiling / ecodriving tips & tactics for better mpg - EcoModder.com

I started out simple. In short time, what was "that's crazy" turned to "why haven't I always done this...." Also check out the search function for questions, and browse for ideas. A lot of great stuff here.

I guess the smooth wheel covers are something to look for. I havent seen those where i live. Also the lowering and the rear wheel skirts are something i can try out. Also the next oil change i get something thinner like 5w30 and maybe mix it with 5w40

Which car are you driving? The VW or the Toyota? Both are good candidates. Look at P&G (pulse & glide) and EOC (engine off coasting) on the lists of techniques. And look at DwL (driving with load).

Better than an oil change by leaps and bounds would be an Ultra Gauge. Unlike the lighter oil, the ultra gauge will pay for itself in a few tanks You can use it to perfect hypermiling techniques.

I have been using torque for instant fuel economy. I myself drive the VW

Hi 1marcelfilms,

I have '99 polo which is very similar to your car. You can see all the changes I've made here: Grochu Modding Thread

And as you can see it's not hard to go above 50mpg Fuel Log

I'm finding kill switch and P&G with EOC a key to the success with this car. But it's still in a very early stage of the modding process, so there's more to come... Hopefully :)

Good luck

But torque does not offer a measure of engine load percentage, does it? You need that measure to fine tune your throttle technique. Most cars want between 75% and 80% load for best fuel consumption/power. Without it you are leaving big mpg gains out of reach. Scangauge and ultragauge will provide it--and much more.

Be careful with the oil selection with deviating from spec and other mods like grill blocking without doing the homework, readings and testing. Never Ecomod to the point at which your cars reliability and proper engine functionality may be compromised in any way or your go against your warranty (unless you just don't care about that). If your engine starts to perform poorly or dies, you have completely lost any advantage you were seeking in saving 10's and 100's of dollars to loosing thousands very quickly.

Yes torque will show you load %

It does everything a scangauge or ultragauge does except work as soon as you turn the car on without an issue.

Or indeed reconnect when you shut the engine off in a queue.

That us because Bluetooth is sh*t.
