At first sight, an All-American football star fell in love with a gorgeous blonde Swedish model...
(China's Geely) Volvo's first in-house tuner hybrid coupe, Polestar I, a 2+2 600hp and 738 lb/ft torque. The powertrain combines the D-E 2 L four-cylinder engine to power the front tires and a pair of torque-vectoring electric motors at the rear tires. The 218 hp e-motors are powered by a 34-kWh battery pack with a 150 k/93 mile range. The muscular carbon-fiber coupe design uses Volvo's Scalable Platform Architecture; chassis and suspension componentry commonality would allow Volvo to develop additional models; family sedans, crossovers and SUVs.

I had not heard of Polestar until I just read a Jalopnik article, but I enjoyed reading about a capable electric car being made by an actual company.

Well they seem to be taking a page out of Tesla’s own playbook drumming up hype about their second car…when their first car isn’t even anywhere near making it to market yet.

Here’s to hoping they at least manage to show Tesla how to stick to delivery timelines.

So far all we know about the upcoming Polestar 2 is that the company, the electrified performance sister brand of Volvo, is targeting the Tesla Model 3. The car is expected to offer around 350 miles of range on a charge and around 400 horsepower, which compares to around 310 miles of range and 450 HP for the dual-motor performance version of the Model 3.

Along with the image, Polestar also teased that the new 2 would be available for sale and through a subscription program similar to Care by Volvo. It also teased that it will debut with a better way for the passengers to interact with the car with a new system from Google and Android, specifically calling out existing voice assistant systems.

According to Electrek, the car should debut in the next few weeks and go into production shortly after the upcoming Polestar 1 hybrid sports coupe. It’s expected to be priced between $40,000 and $50,000 when it goes on sale later this year.
