Subaru legacy???

hello- im new here

i drive a 91 legacy wagon
i am always striving for as much mpgs as possible without been retarded or dangerous

heres what ive done to my 2.2 litre 4 cyl and 5spd AWD car

ive added a free flowing intake and exhaust
lifted the car 3.5 inches to allow fitment of drastically larger tires. at highway speeds the larger tires act as an overdrive, lowering my rpms at a given speed 9%. they are inflated to sidewall max
i went from a 195 70 14, to a 205 70 16

ive also installed a vacuum guage and monitor it
ive reduced weight significantly without sacraficing the utility of the car and the fact im a father of 2

if removed cross bars in the roof rack

as much as i would like to monitor using a scanguage, it is an obd1 car....i have one on my 4runner though:D

what else do the pros recomend i do with an obd1 station wagon with a lift kit? im looking to drive it cross country in the near future and want to save dough :turtle: ....hehehe a turtle

I think you're going to have a little trouble with that, but you could start with an mpguino, returning the car to stock ride height, adding a grille block and removing the roof rack, and getting some low rolling resistance tires.

well- i noticed a significant increase in MPG with the larger tires, like i said, they act as a sort of overdrive. plus- i need the ground clearance- i live on a farm :D

what is a mpguino?

ok- did some research and found it.
problem is- my car does not have a VSS, it is a cable and analog guage

Welcome to the forums!

Have you looked over this list of proven mods? It has nice user data to show MPG gains:

A grill block is a good first place to start. With the car raised a belly pan is a must.

I'm sure it does, I have a '94 Loyale (the predecessor to the Legacy) and I found a VSS signal. The ECU uses it.

your loyal uses a cable for the speedo/odo as well as mine does
so where are you picking up a VSS? Thing i could think of is maybe somewhere in the ABS system, but i dont have abs, and neither do you.

i would like to see how you hooked up a mpguino if you have one though

haha- your on USMB too. small world

I'd have to look at the wiring diagram again, but there's a vehicle speed signal coming from the transmission. I tapped into it at a connector under the dash.

I don't have my MPGuino up and running yet because my (single) fuel injector is the peak-and-hold type, and the 'guino is set up for the more modern type. But the MPGuino does read speed correctly.
