Sunroof vs plug what's your opinion

My civic has an aftermarket tilt up sunroof and I am trying to decide if I should keep it or not.

I have every bit of confidence that I could make a fiberglass plug my self to plug the hole. From what I've read on other import forums this would reduce weight by about 30-50lbs, I could dynamat over it and insulate the full roof.

Or, should I keep it as a vent for the times when I have no choice but to park directly in the sun in the summertime?

It lifts up about 1.5-2 inches in the back, no slide feature. It has a very slight blue color to it and that black texture crap that makes it impossible to tint darker unless I sanded it all down.

I've thought about making a reflective cover that could attach to it and still allow it to tip open.

What are you're thoughts.

They don't weigh that much, they don't hurt aero that much, it's probably nicer to have it- I use mine a lot and it's not even hot here, and a hella lot less work than trying to uninstall it.

I had a very bad experience with an aftermarket sunroof removal on my 75 Camaro. We (my Dad who knows autobody) welded a flat plate in the shape of the sunroof back in it's place. Basically the roof does not thermally expand and contract as it should and it cracked all the bodyfill and paint all off the roof. The car needs a whole new roof to which it is still waiting for many years later. I would highly recommend against it unless you have previous autobody experience and are absolutely certain you know what you are doing.

It's a hole in the roof of your car. If it's not leaking now don't touch it!

It would be much easier and cheaper to keep it.
I think it would look really good if you were too paint the outside of it to match your car. Almost elegant.
