swift transmission
Anyone know if a 5 speed transmission out of a 99 suzuki swift (1.3, 4 cyl) would bolt to a 1.0, 3 cyl metro? Thanks
|
It should, but it depends on the year of the recipient vehicle. There were a few different final drive ratios.

So it sounds like you would be swapping the stock 4.39 for 3.79. You might want to see if anyone has done that, it sounds like it could be a little doggish.. I've heard of people putting the 3 cyl trannys on their 4 cyl engines though for a really fun ride. |
I have a 3.52:1 in a 3cyl metro now, and it works well. 13" wheels are a bit of over kill tho. So I run 12 inch. Suppose I had better scrounge the transmission from the swift. The swift has a double overhead cam on a 1.3, but that should not affect transmission, right? Parts are parts! Thanks

Other than gears, they are all the same pretty much.
The GT trans case has one extra hole on the transmission (by oil pan) for a bracket that doesn't exist on any of the other models. You can still use it without the bracket though. |
I am getting ready to do the 4.39/3.79 swap. I saw somewhere that some swifts had 14" wheels can anyone tell me the stock tire size. there is also a speedo gear for those 14" tires. I have the part # for the gear. thanks

metroshultz installed a trans from a 1.3 into his 3 cylinder with some help from CoyoteX and he likes the higher gear for highway driving.

No worries
The Speedo is driven by the gear on the end of the cable.
I used my cable and gear so the speedo reads the same. I will be putting some 13" rims and tires on soon (I have 12's now), This means I need the driven gear from a car that had 13's on it. (Fortunately I kept the gear from the Swift) You can do it. It is a fairly easy swap. Get the torque bar from the donor though, so you don't have to cut and weld like I did. L8R, S. |
99 Firefly 4 cyl tranny
Trying to keep this dying thread alive!!
I may be swapping in a tranny from a 99 firefly with 3.79:1..did you have any success? Any issues with shifter linkage? some of them are cable.... I found one at a local wreckers for a 99 Firefly, 4 door sedan, 4 cyl, with 250000kms on it..what is that worth? Anyways, nobody really wrote back if they had any problems with the 98-01 4 cyl metro swap onto a G10..so I will if I don't hear back. lemme know please, Ken |
Other than the different torque bar they are all the same transmissions. So when you get it get the bar and it is a bolt in swap. Clutch and everything else is the same. As far as the speedometer gear here is the interchange information I have dug up.
