Tdi 1.9 Skoda Octavia! Gunning for the Panzerwagon-52.54mpg US tank in:) 09/16/15

After some time searching, I've finally managed to track down a non PD Tdi Octavia..
Spotted it on Gumtree for a low price (and haggled my customary 20% off). 185k miles, 2 previous owners, partial s/h and MOT til Dec 15. It could do with a hoover and some new discs and pads, but all in all I'm most pleased! Full gory tale and pics of it here.. https://fuguttycars.wordpress.com/20...orway-madness/ http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...8&d=1433287649 |
This evening a mini valeting took place..
I've already been admonished on twitter due to a lack of "bucket shot";) What do we think? Poor garage vacuum got hammered for 30 mins or so, and then the old wipes came out for super speedy swipery.. The pile of wipes is what came off the drivers door/dash steering wheel/ centre console. The engine bay can wait for another day! http://thumbsnap.com/s/kZhBXcwo.jpg http://thumbsnap.com/s/3HSmFq2Q.jpg http://thumbsnap.com/s/ffGU81fo.jpg http://thumbsnap.com/s/2y32QNwE.jpg http://thumbsnap.com/s/vOWruVOj.jpg |

Now that it is almost fit to sit in, I'll run it up to the unit for a stripdown and look..
Key elements for checking: Condition of brakes (known fault present) Condition of Dampers Condition of other suspension componants Condition of tyres Condition of bodywork Condition of underside brake lines fuel lines Condition of fuel filter engine oil condition coolant conditon fuelpump seals air filter pollen filter Cambelt inspection. Based on the outcome of that little perusal I'll see if she's worth the spending on. If work is to go ahead, it'll likely be brakes first, followed by a full service. Is the cambelt relatively simple on these? |
Took 5 mins to solve the riddle of the braking issue..
And got some bonus e30 action in too:) https://fuguttycars.wordpress.com/20...oda-sleuthing/ http://thumbsnap.com/s/8fQgsv5d.jpg |
Got a wheen of parts due soon for this so it should be on the road by the weekend.
Also used the 335i as a veg hauler to get 100L home ready for the octy to drink http://thumbsnap.com/s/KwyxXU4d.jpg |
Having had a look at the 65mods page, I'm thinking the following:
Initial checks: Brakes checked for dragging. Wheel bearings checked for play. Check of engine bay for any boost/air leaks Check of underside panels to see that they are present and secure. Simple mods: Full service and shift to 5w40 fully synth Oil. Replace fuel filter. Clean out EGR system. Clean out inlet manifold. Tyres to 44psi. Upper front Grille block. Bulbs to LED/low consumption versions. Create COLD AIR intake. Moderate Mods: Undertray front. Undertray mid. Undertray rear. Heated Fuel Filter(For running VEG). Insulate block and engine bay for faster warmup. Turn wheeltrims into moondiskesque covers. Lowering on new dampers and springs. Moderate weight reduction where possible. Should be enough to be getting on with the now.. |
Having been oot furra swatch, and it looks like the boot sticker suggests it has an ALH lump-is that a good , bad or indifferent thing?
|
Make sure to disable the EGR before running on vegetable oil. Nothing clogs an intake faster than vegetable oil polymers.

What ratio of veg are you using? Or are you making bio?
