Tesla Model X

The Tesla Model X was revealed last evening:

A lot of great features, but obviously at a high price. Tesla has shown themselves to be a formidable design company, and I think they have hit another home run.

I think it's too complicated and the doors raise & lower too slowly. I'd prefer a Model S.

Great cars though. It was hilarious when he mentioned how it broke the pole during the side impact test.

It's a real puzzle how the same person can do things that are brilliant, and other things that are just plain incredibly stupid, like those doors.

On a day to day basis, I wouldn't want those doors. However, there are times when people park like jerks and leave you with almost no room to get in, and that's when the gullwing doors come in handy. Just Sunday I had to crawl over the passenger seat to get out, and even that side left me with little room to open a door.

Let's hope the falcon doors don't lead to endless warranty claims that bankrupt Tesla. You could call that '(This is) The End' by The Doors.

It's just the back side doors that are gullwing:

I think the greatest strength of Tesla is that they design everything to function as well as possible. They take nothing for granted - and no assumption goes untested.

I didn't catch that, which shows how much enthusiasm I have for this car. Gullwings are pointless then if all doors aren't made that way, especially the drivers door.

I'd rather have the S; better CoD, better styling. What are the advantages of this over the S again? More seating?

Why is it all or nothing on doors? They have different strengths and weaknesses. The panoramic windshield would be nixed, and structural challenges would be increased with four falcon doors.

It's not just, or even mostly, the fact that they're gull-wing, but that they're power-operated.

As for the parking, doesn't there seem to be sort of a contradiction in worrying about your SUV in a parking space?
