There and back
Met the Parents for lunch today, but I got delayed and when I figured it out, I needed to go 14 miles in 15 minutes from my garage door to the restaurant.
Being a WW2 bomber pilot Pop doesn't like people being late, "People got killed when the fighters didn't make the roundezvous, on time or early. No reason for you to be late!"
I hopped on the Interstate going west right where the speed limit goes from 65 to 70 mph. I don't think I have floored that car more in the last 3 months combined, pulsed to 80, then coasted downhill to 65 and pulsed again to 80, staying up with traffic. Others fairly close to me, probably didn't even notice, which works for me and I actually made that 14 miles in 15 minutes, including several turns a merge and exit and a couple of traffic lights averaging close to 60mph.
Nice thing about coasting with the engine running is the faster you coast the better your mileage, and the grades are short enough for one good coast and a pulse up and over the top followed by another coast, up to 80 down to 60-65. I still was NOT passing other cars.
The ride back was much more tranquil, without any deadline, I took the back roads with thee fewest lights driving through some of the scenic parts of colonial Williamsburg, coasting at every opporunity. My average speed was half what it had been outbound.
