Thermal imaging for engine insulation

I had a chance to borrow a thermal imaging camera to check something at home, and got the idea to check my car's engine bay insulation.

Took 2 pics of the car roughly 10-15min after parking on the driveway. Outside temp was around freezing.

This shows that the majority of the heat is lost around perimeter of the hood. The hood itself has 2 layers of insulation on its underside (the OEM blnaket plus bubble wrap with silver foil on 1 side), so I will need to add a seal around the edge. Any recommendations
Hopefully this will aid with retaining heat when preheating the engine, or after parking while running errands.

That's a great idea !
I can also see how this would be useful under the car when creating underbelly coverings.

Why do you think the heat goes up into the A-pillar? Is it just that it's higher than the hood?
