Isopropyl nitrate was previously used in a jet engine rapid starting system for military interceptor aircraft (a requirement for fast scrambling, as it provided simultaneous, near-instantaneous engine starting for twin engines) and was known as AVPIN.

It was used on AHRA tracks safely, most losses were due to wreckage. The only gotcha was that re-igniting was a no-no. It ocurs to me that a simple momentary contact switch and latching relay could prevent re-ignites.

I won't be holding my breath for hydrogen. Last time I believed hydrogen would be an economically-viable fuel and dumbproofed enough to become safe for the average Joe to use was 20 years ago...
