I wasn't happy with the aero part either as he calculates the effect of the extra surface against the Cd of the car. Of course, wider tires would most likely affect the Cd of the car...
Yet, the area increase isn't entirely fair either as it happens underneath the car. That area should be counted in with the total area in the first place, though maybe less so when a car has a flat bottom like the Tesla he uses for his calculation.

All in all the aero effect is not that big.

I thought the coast down values are weighed in with the ABC formula he was talking about? Each car has its own formula, hence the differences in the effect a size change has - and maybe that the actual sidewall height and stiffness were not provided.

2011 Honda Insight + HID, LEDs, tiny PV panel, extra brake pad return springs, neutral wheel alignment, 44/42 PSI (air), PHEV light (inop), tightened wheel nut.
lifetime FE over 0.17 Gmeter or 0.1 Mmile.

It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.

When I drive a car I'm a driver. When I'm sitting on my couch I'm a biker.
