Tires replaced after 91.7 K miles

Hi, I finally replaced the original tires on my 2000 Jaguar S-Type after 91.7K miles. They still weren't totally bald but as one tire had a flat and I have long road trip to Oregon coming up this week I replaced the original Bridestone Turanzas with 4 new Michelin Pilot Exaltos.

I started running higher pressures after about 45K miles and usually ran them at 42 psi.IMHO , higher pressures do not increase tire wear .
all the best L&S

Great going, did you rotate them or pay them any other attention apart from higher pressures?

You sure got some good mileage out of them.

Your MPG will likely take a hit from the new Exaltos though.
I've driven both generations of the Exalto. They perform well, handling wise, but likely won't last 91K miles.

Wow, that's really great. Is the wear evenly distributed across the inner and outer tread?

Hi, I rotated them about every 10K, but was very diligent about keeping the air pressure at 42 psi. The wear was pretty even across the tread. I was tempted to shoot for 100K miles but it just wasn't worth the risk during a long trip away from Home. Euromodder , I agree, it will be tough to beat the Bridgestone Turanzas but we'll see what we can do with the Exaltos. The ride home from the tire shop was a little soft with only 32/35 psi in the tires.

Very impressive, Vic. Post some pix of the treadwear, if you took any.

That is pretty awesome! What pressure does the manufacture recommend and what is max sidewall on those tires?

I believe that 70k on either tires or brakes is a minimum for economy, not just FE.

It's fairly common for DODGE Cummins-powered pickups to see well in excess of 100k with LRR Michelin LTX A/S. I replaced the factory set of mine at 120k with 4/32's remaining. Second set is wearing at a rate that suggests 250k truck miles on but two sets of tires.

Rotations when I remember, or, about 20k apiece. Factory-recommended pressure settings (or according to weight scales). Load and pressure need to match for best life and best (safe) performance.

Michelin recommends no more than seven [7] years on a tire (ten [10] if it is a spare never-used) as ozone, UV and other problems degrade the item. At the very least it is recommended that a Michelin dealer de-mount and inspect the tire past the seven year mark.

Be careful of age and heat. Tire delamination is NOT pretty.

That's some insane tire life! Unfortunately, I'll never see that out of my Jeep, as unless you take corners at no more than 5mph, it's pretty hard on tires (seeing more than 30-40k from a set isn't terribly common). I'm going to try to make a few suspension changes to help that though, as it's mostly the fronts that wear (regular rotations help, but don't completely avoid the issue).

We saw in excess of 70k on the factory GOODYEAR tires on our first 2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ. 60k+ on the GENERAL Grabber UHP tire sets used since then (a "performance" tire).

Yes, driver skill is the most important determinant (after basic care & maintenance). Three different drivers on these Jeeps (four including me).
