Currently experimenting with some minor aerodynamic mods.

I also intend to change the stock exhaust manifold with a 4-2-1 header and perhaps a lightweight crank pulley.

They should provide a noticeable increase in low-to-midrange torque, which is likely to increase fuel efficiency. Thinking about switching to synthetic oil to lower internal friction, but that remains to be seen.

Check out this thread concerning my current aerodynamic mods :

Cheers !

I managed a 1033 km tank with my boxy Scion xB, which shares the same 1NZ-FE engine and 11.5 gallon gas tank used in the Echo. I'm handicapped with shorter gearing, larger frontal area, and brick-on-wheels aerodynamics, so you MT Echo owners can certainly match and surpass my accomplishments.

Did you use P&G and EOC techniques? I simply refuse to turn off my engine while coasting, for safety reasons and I do not like the tedious work P&G requires.

Yes, I do. But I've ridden with an MT Echo owner who managed to average 60+ mpg over a 10 mile loop (matching my xB's P&G/EOC mpg while he rode in mine). He did it simply driving with load.

I did average 62.6 MPG over a 30-mile commute once (DWL), but it was perfect conditions and I haven't been able to replicate that result.

Hi All,

I am new here and looking to get a set of tires for my 01 Echo. I am having trouble deciding on whether or not I should go from a 14" to a 15" wheel or not. I am looking for better fuel efficiency and also improved handling. I do not know if going to wider 15" wheel will net me improved handling. I might just go with a 14" LRR tire. Looking for suggestions and looking forward in joining this forum!
