Newbie..

Hi all...

I drive a 2004 Toyota Matrix. I am a nature (bird) photographer and take photographs about twice a week at the Bitter Lake NWR near Roswell NM.

The tour loop is 8 miles around and the speed limit is 20mph. But I idle around the loop at about 5-10mph looking for birds to photograph. When I see one I stop and either take the picture out the window or get out of my car to position myself better. I let the car idle while I am out snapping the picture.

I imagine I am using more gasoline than I should and would welcome any suggestions.

Noel A

Buy a bike and throw it in the back.

Drive to lake, shut car off, get on bike, take pictures.

Thats a great idea Jon. With the back seats down its no problem to get a bike in the back of the Matrix.

That is not an option. I am 74 years old and have knee problems that preclude me from riding a bicycle, especially on dirt/gravel roads.

Hmmm, maybe you could look into getting a Segway.

Pretty sure they work on dirt, too.
