Bugatti Chiron Longtail

Bugatti Chiron prototype just crushed the brand's top speed record, it recorded 304.773 MPH. They did it with a modified Chiron; unchanged gearbox & AWD system, new tires, new exhaust system, added a safety cage and they added 9.8 inches to the vehicle's rear section/belly pan to reduce the top speed drag. The interior only has a single seat, took off its active wing/airbrake and its modified suspension uses a laser-controlled automatic ride height adjustment. Speculation Bugatti will make a long-tail variant for limited production, rumors say it could carry an $4 million price tag!

Watched the video of it hitting 304mph... it was pretty cool, though I’m waiting for either Koenigsegg or Hennessey Performance to beat it with something...

18million seems like a lot but they gotta pay for that R&D somehow...

Bugatti

It's already a template shape, and they're just adding fineness ratio exactly as Mercedes did with their 1978 C-111 III,Fachsenfeld / Kamm did with the K-body,Porsche GT1,McLaran F-1,and General Motors did with the 1993 Impact/EV1 land speed record car.

The Hennessey Venom GT definitely has the ability to break that number as long as the tires hold together. The straightaway on the VW test track has a length of somewhere close to 5.5 miles. When the Venom GT set it's 270MPH speed it was limited to 2.3 miles of the Kennedy Space Center's 3.2 mile runway. They also have the new Venom F5 that they are planning to run up past 300MPH.

The Agera RS topped out at 285MPH a couple years back and averaged 278MPH. The Jesko is their replacement for it which they are touting a 300+MPH top speed that has yet to be proven.

Should be interesting to see.

Far more cost effective and safer to go 300 mph in an aircraft.

Seems like a very silly exercise for people with too much money.

With the likes of McLaren and Bugatti making or thinking of making longtails for the street, will the world soon follow?

Could be a slightly better world if it lowers Cd.

There's already people who drive around with these kinds of large attachments hanging off the back of their cars:

Makes me feel like adding a DIY box extension wouldn't be so ridiculous. Maybe toss in a parachute to make people think it's a drag car?
