Which is why I suggested Velco™. If the panel is held all along an edge rather than at concentrated stress points it's more likely to hold.
There's velco and there's *VELCO* if you know what I mean. I've seen velco that won't hold a modem on a metal wall; and I've seen other pieces that have a strong adhesive side wider than the working side. To quote Google:
