Using 22% less fuel than last year?!

This year I've been tracking my car's dash mpg figure every few days, and rather than obsessing over mpg, calculating the actual fuel used per commute. I've managed to reduce it from 0.4 Imperial gallons to 0.31 on average fro November - usual things like technique, grill block, tyre pressures, but also choice of route to simply reduce the distance. It probably also helps that so far this winter has been quite mild!

Good going

Let's see what I've been up to .
1136L during the past year (01.12.2010 - 01.12.2011 / 23.975km)
1577L the year before (01.12.2009 - 01.12.2010 / 29.933 km)
That's 441L , 6000km or 28% less.

It's not a trend though, I've done 2 long roadtrips in the 2009-2010 period using my own car.
In 2011, we've put those miles on a friend's car.
Yeah, that's cheating
