Sorry I didn't get your message from last year, I have not visited for a while.

I removed the valence block, and kept the other blocks, this does not overheat. I had some warmer temps with the valence block with a small intake. It just was not worth it to me.

I have a 5 speed 1.6 l Base version. 11% is a big jump for gearing but it is so undergeared at the moment, I think it would take 5% to get it to a normal condition, and I want overdrive.

Well I ended up with some Uniroyal Tigerpaws. 185/75/14. First day, I hated them, felt like driving through mud. But then I added some air pressure and ran them at 50psi and adjusted the Scangauge using a gps speedometer. Now I like what I see on the scangauge but I need a coupla fillups to properly calibrate before passing judgement.

There is no way the bigger tires at 205/75/14 would have fit on my car, the wheel wells are just not big enough. The 185/75/14 s are pretty much filling the wheel wells. I have adjusted the speed calibration on my Scangauge +9%. I don't know if I ever properly set it for my old wheels so can't say how the current circumference compares to the old one.

I like the tires now. We still could get a blizzard or three this season and I feel like I have some tread to plow me through the mud when necessary. 50 psi and I am a fan of Tigerpaws.

I went from 185/65/14 to 185/75/14, which is a 6% increase in circumference, according to the tire size calculator. I am pretty happy with how this drives, the rpms are lower at cruising speeds. I had to start from a stop on an incline, and did not have a problem with the 1st gear being too high, it was just about right to get moving.

These were the numbers with the original 185/65/14 tires.
40 mph -> 2000 rpm
50 mph -> 2500 rpm
60 mph -> 3000 rpm
70 mph -> 3500 rpm
Note that I do not recall if I calibrated the Scangauge speed using gps, so the speed may not be 100% accurate. It should be close but ...

I will get new numbers with the new tires.

Compare to the 185/75/14 new tires:

40 mph -> 1837 rpm
50 mph -> 2325 rpm
60 mph -> 2762 rpm
70 mph -> 3250 rpm

In each case, between 7% and 9% difference in rpm.

The original speed data were taken looking at the speedometer, the new data from the Scangauge mph readout, after having calibrated the speed +9% using a gps speedometer.
