My sister has a 3 and 5 and my dad used to have a 3, so that really swayed us towards Mazda. We started looking at used minivans, but the gas mileage to vehicle price difference for a decent van over the Durango would have been a slower payback.
My parents had three different Caravans and we really liked them. My dad always had them serviced accordingly and we never had any issues.
Another reason we bought new was because there wasn't a comparable vehicle that we saw. Sliding rear doors, 25 mpg and seated six (or two adults, two kids, luggage and a floppy eared 75 lb pooping machine). So, we had the choice between a $17,000 5 with 40,000 miles or an $18,000 5 with 15,000 miles. We just made a deal for $19,000 on the new one.
