The Verge TS hubless in-wheel electric motorcycle
https://rmkvehicles.com/newsfeed/2019/11/5/on-the-vergenbspof-changenbspnbsptsnbsp-nbspteemu-saukkio
The more I look at it, the more my mind is blown.
The motor is in the rim. And look at how the rear fender is mounted...
I hope they have a practical solution for changing and balancing tires though. And I wonder if the exposed power cables will last and be safe enough.

So the motor is what we call an outrunner. Good choice for torque. Looks like 8 bolts holding the tire/ fender on, quick change connectors on the wiring. Looks like your leg protects the wires when ridden. I'm so over hubless.

Thanks, that made me look up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outrunner.

Coils on the fixed inside, magnet ring rotating outside.

Ah ha! Finally a vehicle mass and speed appropriate application for a hub motor.
The exposed power cables are safe enough. The drive can shut down at the slightest hint of a ground fault or short.

And the bearings styles may allow it to last longer

I am unaware of any complaints about hub motors not lasting long enough in a bike application.
It's a lot more bearing surface, which is good but also that sealing edge is huge and a lot closer to all the dirt and water you don't want in there.
