Nissan bringing the 2014 Micra to Canada

Img source: Wikipedia

See also: 2015 Nissan Micra forum

This is cool... because I like the idea that there will be "new" used Geo Metro-type equivalents to choose from some day in my distant future...

I just read that Nissan is bringing the Micra to Canada in order to have a cheaper (entry level) hatchback that slots beneath the Versa Note.

The company says there are no plans to do the same in the U.S. (Because apparently we're bigger fans of littler cars.)

Minimal details, so far:
  • sales begin "in the spring"
  • price to be announced, other than below $13,348 (base Versa Note)
  • manufactured in Mexico
  • no powertrain details given
Basically, this will be a direct competitor to the Chevy Spark and Mitsu Mirage. And ironically, those two are only selling around 150-200 each per month here. So Nissan wants a piece of a very small pie. (Or they're expecting gas prices to go way up!)

If anyone learns more, please post it up!

Now if VW would just decide to sell us the UP...

1. Less glass to scrape.
2. Narrower path to shovel.
3. Less interior space to heat.

Makes sense to me!

Ha!

3. More expensive fuel
4. Less disposable income (?)
5. European sensibilities! (Yes, they actually said that.)

How does this compare to the Spark and Mirage fuel economy wise?

They're have to price it really low, below the Versa sedan, to get sales I'd imagine.

I've read that they may be sticking the 1.6 4-cyl in it (same as Versa sedan / Note), which would give it better city numbers than the Versa (less weight), and slightly lower highway numbers (worse aero).

But I've also read that it may come with a 1.2L 3-cyl. If it does, it'll have slightly worse city numbers than the Mirage (Micra is apparently a few hundred pounds heavier), and slightly worse highway numbers (higher drag coefficient).

Update: it's the 1.6L only, see - http://micra-forum.com/showthread.ph...28NRCAN-EPA%29

Pricing: they're hinting it will set a new benchmark for affordability. We'll know what that means next week.

Eventually it may get different engines, such asa 1.5L 4-pot instead of the 1.6L, and regarding the 3-cylinder 1.2L it may still fare better than the Renault 1.0L 4-cylinder used in some versions exported to Brazil.

American reviewer loving the Micra 3-cylinder:

Several more articles have mentioned only the 1.6L for Canada.

The automatic will be the 4-speed slushbox. Looks like the same drivetrain as the base Versa sedan.

It may be not the worst at all, but it's a waste to keep such an outdated transmission instead of getting the CVT.

You're right: definitely a waste. Its the least efficient of the 3 transmissions available in the Versa.
