Formula Hybrid

Formula Hybrid

Quote:
Formula Hybrid™ is a design and engineering challenge for undergraduate and graduate college and university students. They must design, build, and compete an open-wheel, single-seat, plug-in hybrid racecar. This car must conform to a formula which emphasizes drive train innovation and fuel efficiency in a high-performance application.

Quote:
The most challenging event at the competition is the Endurance event, where all the vehicles begin having fully charged their accumulators (Batteries or Capacitors) from the grid, as is the norm for a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Many student teams will choose to maximize their accumulator capacity, as in the Chevrolet Volt, or to run a smaller system as in the Toyota Prius. These are complex decisions, requiring extensive engineering analysis.

I stumbled across this... thought it was cool

Created and hosted annually by Dartmouth College, . I know the current team leader, in fact, seems like fun but I'm not an engineer.

That's easy... use a D-cell and a Lego motor on a flywheel and a CBR-R900 engine with raised compression running race fuel... It's hybrid, you can have a plug-in battery charger and it's stinking fast!

I don't think that excludes you, it does say that there are challenges for engineering students, but I didn't see where is said it was exclusive to engineering students... If you are really interested, I am sure any help would be appreciated.

They say racing improves the breed. Nothing like the totally Darwinian nature of visibly finding out what work and what doesn't.

Of course it's not against the rules, but I know who's on the team and the tasks they do. I'm also too heavy to be a driving. I know I could've built a better hybrid system than they did this year, but I would've had to learn more background and I can't do that while taking classes, . Mehbe if I go to grad school here,

On the Formula SAE team we had a couple bio students that knew how to weld and we had a few business students that were responsible for the team marketting - 25 thousand dollars doesn't come without some corporate sponsorship.
