Arrow Video: How to 'drive' a bicycle legally and safely

After a very terrifying day of cycling (yes, Landon's Vlog #4 is coming up in a day or two), I found this very useful bicycle riding video. I think it's just as informative to motorists as it is to cyclists :

That lady in the SUV is much too cheery at 5:46

Good video! L.A.B. named our town as bicycle friendly, and cyclists are getting tickets, so a class is being formed on bike safety to both inform or lessen tickets. I suppose the same guidelines as in this film will be used. Not a single trike, velomobile, E,V.,hybrid-trike, or recumbent. [GRRRRRR...]

Nice video.

BUT

I'm not a fan of the use of the clip of the cyclist in the turn lane (with the maroon 4runner behind) at 4:49 and 5:50.

The rider is making a left turn, but staying in the right-most part of the turn lane, not "taking the lane"
The method shown in the video used to be the method recommended by the League of American Bicyclists, but they've since started to recommend "taking the lane"

IMO, taking the lane is the far better option. By staying in the right-most part of the left turn lane you're opening up 90% of that lane to the vehicle behind you. That just increases the likelihood that they'll do something dumb, like try to pull up alongside you through the turn, to share the lane. That's just a bad situation.

Definitely a good observation on the left turn lanes. Being so far on the right of the lane would probably confuse motorists and a vehicle might try to squeeze by.

Agreed on the turn lanes.

Also I'd never thought of signaling people with my arm, not a bad idea. I just kind of turned before, sometimes people would honk at me, guess they were expecting me to give a hand signal
