I only use my calculator app to do the MPG. I opened it up today after filling up my and my wife's TDI beetles, and the last tank MPG was 47.33
I put in the miles and gallons, and it was 47.33 again
Totally different drives on those tanks, and somehow I got back to the same results down to the decimals.
Weird.
Our MkIV get about 44 in the winter or town, and 46-ish summer, mostly a mix of urban/rural.
I've only broken 50 a few tanks in 150,000 miles between the two of them.

I once calculated based on my average MPG commuting 4hrs per day round trip in a Toyota Camry, that a full tank would get me 500 miles. On the way to work one day the low fuel light came on towards the end of my drive in.

Not wanting to fight getting back onto the freeway, and wanting the cheapest fuel I could get, I decided to drive most of the way home on the low fuel light. When I turned into the station, the car died and I coasted to the pump. The trip meter rolled exactly to 500 miles as I came to a stop.

First tractor I drove for this company had such impressive fuel mileage I wanted to see if I could make it over 2,000-miles on a fill. A wind came up that stopped me going farther with the low fuel light already on, but it was 1,981 miles nonetheless. And I put in more fuel than it (theoretically) holds.

FWIW, skyking I almost always refuel at 1,400-miles. It isn’t consciously planned. I may be averaging under 8-mpg, or I may be at nearly 10. It just works into my days that way. The number of miles does not reflect an even distribution of daily miles, or miles per assigned trip.

With 220-gals aboard and 180 as useful, my range is EASILY from 1500 to 1800-miles. BUT 1400 is where a silent alarm goes off. And I don’t have to set a trip odometer for that to happen.

Most folks don’t believe me when I say that one works for the vehicle and not the other way around. But I’d bet EVERYONE has a similar form of vehicle compliance they’re obeying.

When the light goes out on the silver car, it has 1.4 gallons left in the tank. That worked out to 660 miles this time. The idiot fuel light is backwards on it, and it is on all the time till it hits 1/4, then it goes out!
Not something worth fixing.

Reminds me of the opening scene in the Barkley documentary where the journalist is worried that the tank is on E. Barkley says not to worry, E stands for excellent. "What does F stand for then"... "F'ed".

Nice! I ran out of gas in my CBR 250R pulling into a gas station, but I did have to push it 40 feet or so. Filled 3.3 gallons of the 3.4 gallon tank.

Oh and maybe you should reserve your fuel stunts for the way back home..

I've run everything I have owned out at least once. I haven't run the Mazda CX-5 out yet because it's a company car and I have a company gas card, but there is about a 70 mile stretch just after Boise to Ontario Oregon of no petrol stations. The fuel light came on not long after leaving Boise, and I whipped out Gasbuddy to see where the next and most affordable station was, and it said "no stations found". At that point I slowed to 55 (in a 75) and turned the AC off. Felt like a sucker when I filled up and calculated I had about a gallon left. Could have driven 75 with AC on and made it.

I've run the motorcycle out 2 weekends in a row; once coasting into it, the other time I had to push it about 1/4 mile. There was 1 other time I coasted it into the station.

Running out of fuel has never caused me to be late. I've always known it was a possibility and planned accordingly.
