Volo FS3 economy chip: Snake oil or lifesaver?

Okay, folks... There doesn't seem to be much information on here about the Volo Performance FS3 fuel saver chip, so I'm going to stick my neck out and ask about it...
I know there are plenty of things we can do to improve our fuel economy, from driving technique to instrumentation to vehicle mods. I don't think there is any magic bullet in obtaining the best results possible, but I'm all about results, and it seems like this item might deliver, in parallel with everything else.
I'm wondering about this in particular because my 2002 Chevy Prizm has the 3 speed AT--no overdrive. I need all the help I can get.
Thoughts, ideas, experience? Thanks!

That thread has some pretty mixed reviews. There should be much more information six years later.
