energen 5

I am looking for a belt driven motor-generator that I can put on a Toyora Yaris, as a launch assist. The only info so far is that Delphi Automotive Systems of Troy Michigan have a energen 5 for 12 volt system and energen 10 for 42 volt systems. The google search brings up more trash than I care to wade through, so I could use some help if some one has gone down this road before me. What I have in mind is to us this system for better city milage and maybe tiny solar assist on bright sunny days on the highway. I am in the day dreaming phase...

have you looked in to using an Etek motor with regen controller? you are most likely going to need a higher voltage battery pack, then a DC/DC converter to give you 12v for lights and I would say a 12v battery to act as a buffer to keep the dc/dc converter from being over loaded.

I just looked at some of the posts relating to etek motors and am intimidated by the complexity. What I was day dreaming about was very small oportunistic use of solar cells mounted on the car to add a small amount of drive force, to save some fuel. I should have known that if it was easy others would have done it by now. I will keep looking...

Read up about the alternator delete options. Deleting the alternator will save a few HP. Then add a deep cycle battery and a solar panel on dash/rear window. Lots of people have talked about it here and some have measured power/mpg gain without alternator.
