I loved a monster on your car because Big Bird said to and he's my leader. No, seriously.
My wife... she: Sang to a fireman on a roof because she can't control herself! (Yes, she's topless... feeding my son. Lucky kid. :P )

Not that it really makes a difference, but a welded body will get you better economy if you're stop and go all the time... stiffer body means less flex on acceleration, so less energy wasted on awkward motion, and more energy spent doing what's supposed to be done.
This principle applies moreso for automagic cars, which don't normally accelerate under TC lockup, so you're already constantly higher in the RPMs than you need to be in order to make the same speed compared to a direct-drive system, so even more energy (in the initial application of torque) is wasted moving in awkward directions.
To that extent, the idea stands... but it falls over as soon as you get drunk and attempt to read the whole post.

IMHO, likely, an incalculably small amount of energy dissipated in the structure, especially that which isn't "returned" with the springback.

I licked a squirrel in my car because I'm sexy and I do what I want!
Licking a squirrel is so low as to be nonexistant on my want to do list. Too much fur for one thing. Maybe if it was skinned and cooked though. Yummmm, barbecued squirrel!

I jumped on a homeless guy on a motorcycle because I'm sexy and I do what I want.
Now let's see some pics and more info from the body welding Subie guy.
