NZ Fuel Economy Trials

Ok before you ask, NZ is not some little heard of state in the good ol' US of A. It has the same population though, I am of course referring to New Zealand (southern hemisphere, vaguely near Australia [That one with Sydney. And kangaroos], has lots of sheep, Hercules, Zena, and Frodo).

But now that I have done belittling the geographically challenged (and the population of NZ), are there any fuel economy trials in New Zealand?

I have heard of the AA Energywise Challenge. But despite the biennial nature of the competition (and it's 2010 last run date) 2012 appears to have not occurred.

So is there some other competition running? I would *love* to enter some aero-modded vehicle or another.

If all else fails I would love to organise such a competition (although for legal reasons it would be a multi-car club cruise with bonus prizes, with all comers named members) though.

Anyone?

*edit: Attacks at my grammar, particularly my use of commas before 'and', will not be entered into*

Moved to the "events and meetups" subforum...

Also: confused... organizing NZ events when under your avatar you have "Location: Australia"?

Simple, I used to live in NZ, and I am moving back as soon as someone buys my car.

I'd look to see if there are any hybrid car groups or EV groups around. People in those groups might be most receptive to the idea of doing a fuel economy run.

Then again, it's been traditional sports car clubs who hosted some of the most well attended economy runs I've gone to in the last few years. Well, a sports car club with at least one or 2 eco-minded organizing members.

BLSTIC,
Could you give us an idea of the fuel economy from your Mighty Boy?
These could be pretty impressive, although I understand that delivery work isn't conducive to good FE numbers.

If I wasn't on the motorway so often, I'd be interested in finding one of them.

I have so far averaged 15.3 km/l around town on delivery work with a peak of 17km/l when I wasn't thrashing it (i.e. I had a few days off work). Not mixed driving, almost all of it was drive 500m, slow down, turn 90 degrees, repeat.

On the highway (admittedly at around 90km/h as I was unsure what transmission was fitted at the time) I got 20km/l.

Note that the vehicle has been fitted with a larger 800cc engine and has 270,000km. The engine is extremely worn (huge amounts of blow-by and occasionally smoke) and with a new engine it should average 17km/l minimum around town.
