The Insight is just too much of a value proposition. Aluminum never rusts. I would choose a VX or HF if it never rusted, wasn't always molested, wasn't overpriced, and wasn't nearing the end of life halfway mark at typically over 180,000 miles or more.
In my opinion the hybrid nature of the Insight is over rated. Especially regen. I find that feature very uncompelling. The LED dash, stop start, styling etc makes for a great car. All of that can be found in current un-hybrid cars (stop-start). Wish they made it lighter and smaller and ditched the IMA system.

An Insight shell would be the ideal candidate for a salvaged Ford ecoboost engine. That would be a fuel economy AND performace MONSTER.

Do you know if the HX also has the cracking exhaust manifold problem? Because if so that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'll pick up 3-4 just in case mine cracks in the future.

Tell me about it. I remember when a toyota pick up truck was about the size of a golf cart. Now they are bigger than the American made ones.

Looks like the HX manifolds are starting to become a problem. I think cracking manifolds are fairly typical of cast iron manifolds and aluminum heads, due to different expansion characteristics. Lots of newer models have gone to tubing instead of castings. Ford started doing that about 20 years ago.

Thanks, I'll probably put out the word on CL and hit the local pick a parts to see what I can find.
