Craigslist is for people too stupid to use Facebook, ebay, amazon, ect. CL has too many broke retards who will just waste your time.
Facebook is a little bit better, tolerable.

I haven't tried FB yet, mostly because I despise them, but my working theory is the easier something is to use, the more scoundrels it attracts.
All my CL experiences have been good.

Now that's a pretty low bar. How do you get that stupid?

Get there: street drugs.
Most start there.

Craigslist really cleaned up their site by charging $5 to list a vehicle. It got rid of the scammers and dreamers. Now it is people that actually want to sell their vehicle (and lots of dealers)

Free also attracts scoundrels
I've had good luck with CL to sell bigger items - most recently a boat.

I think I sent 85 messages on OfferUp attempting to give away a futon. People wanted me to deliver it, or wanted to know exact dimensions, etc. I gave up.
There was a guy on OfferUp that wanted me to deliver a drill set, and I said no, but if I happened to pass by that way I'll let him know. Instead I got a buyer that drove an hour to purchase my drills, and didn't haggle the price. When I changed the status to sold, the original guy was angry, saying he would have picked it up even though he refused to do so.
On CL I purchased a 2007 Subaru Outback (in 2009) for $1,000 under book value and didn't even try to haggle the price, which is exactly why it was being sold under value. A month later I decided I didn't like the lumbering handling, poor fuel economy, and sluggish automatic transmission, so I sold it for $1,000 more than I paid for it to the first person who responded to my CL ad. He took it for a drive around the block, then said he'd buy it.
I did purchase the motorcycle in my avatar in 2003 from an Ebay auction though. Paid $5,500 for the 2 year old bike. Also bought my ODOT Dodge/Cummins truck from an Ebay auction for $7k.

I bought my green Superbeetle off Craigslist. It was great (it would fire up on 1/2 revolution at start) but I was seduced by a Shantung Gold Superbeetle in a farmer's field so I sold it on.
(I've still go the bike and the roof rack)
If there's a five dollar charge to list on Craigslist, I should look into methods of payment. Maybe I could sell the Dasher diesel despite the lack of swap meets this summer.

My friend listed something for sale on CL, and a potential buyer asked him if he took "green trade". Since we're simple country folk, my friend assumed he was talking about greenbacks.
Both were annoyed to learn they had differing expectations on that transaction.
Pretty sure CL doesn't accept either of those interpretations... there are always prepaid debit cards.

Yes, every time I've sold something on Craigslist I have a few people ask if they can pay in weed.
