What are these vents for on my car?

Was going to make a DIY coroplast windshield wiper cowl (to reduce car drag) by zip tying a row of coroplast to these vent holes and have the ends stick up over / wipers to increase aerodynamics.

Can I cover them up? Car: Toyota corolla 2006

Those openings provide high pressure fresh air into the cabin. Blocking them might put additional load on the blower motor.

* The ventilation systems are 'closed' during wind tunnel, and CFD testing of production cars.
* A 'separation bubble', should it exist there at the cowl, will just travel along with the car, with laminar flow following over it, and reattaching, as if it didn't exist.
* I completely covered this area on Spindletop, and it showed no measurable effect at top speed at Bonneville.
* Covering this entire area, plus adding a more streamlined Dodge Viper Coupe windshield only improved drag by Cd 0.005 on Spirit of EcoModder.com, at the DARKO Wind Tunnel.
* I recommend that you look elsewhere for savings.

Just to add, I personally hate these vents as every time we get an oil change they draw in the smell of any oil and other outside smells into the cabin.. and changing the cabin filter doesn't help. Since changing the spark plugs and new coil packs.. we're getting all kinds of smells.. I'm wondering is there's something I can place in those openings to try and filter out more of what we don't want in the van. Our only cure, is to run the AC with the circulation mode on, which closes these vents, but this option only last about 20 mins.

They make a vent deoderant. Cant say more other than I'm allergic to most
