What is the worst Christmas gift you have received?

I cannot think of anything, but I am pretty forgetful.

However, this is a pretty good list: https://www.buzzfeed.com/hannahmarde...t-that-matters

This year I think I may have figured out I don't appreciate gift getting/giving - because of my mom. She gives the worst gifts because she doesn't listen to what I say. I can mention my whole life I don't like mushrooms, and she'll get extra mushrooms thinking I like them (I like them now as an adult). Mom knew I liked Star Wars, so she got me this one year;

Just because I like a movie doesn't mean I want a poorly insulated and impossible to clean drinking vessel.

Buying your own gift.

My mother refuses to give up a gift exchange even though I'm the youngest (in my 40's) and my family is spread over 13 time zones. At least we got her to agree to draw names about 5 years ago but it isn't Christmas without opening gifts. (One at a time as everyone watches)

We just finished the our video call / gift exchange. As always it consisted of either people exchanging gift cards or unwrapping gifts they bought for themselves and were sent a check to cover the cost. I truly don't understand the purpose.

This year got a hydraulic bottle jack - very handy and needed but it doesn't feel like a gift. My mother asked me what I wanted, I gave her some ideas, she selected one of those ideas, asked me to purchased it, and she send me a check to cover the cost.

I'll get my own present on Monday. I've already picked it out.

Meanwhile, I can't go outside lest someone rings the land line. Nothing in email, the young folk don't appreciate asynchronous communication. It's all MSM or SMS, whichever don't work on land line.

Did anyone notice Candace Owens saying 'he probably only reads newspapers', about the guy who [made/saved?] Twitter and got no thanks? I hope I said that apolitically enough for The Lounge.
