Down to $1.50 a gallon and still 53-54 mpg, I can drive 55 mph for $1.50 per hour, LMAO.

It was back in 03 that gas jumped from a bit over a buck to a bit over a buck fifty. It's funny how invading someone in the mideast can do that. It's even funnier how wallpapering over problems by printing more money winds up taking it past $4 per gallon.

At least some of the reduced demand we've got now is because of efficiency and alternatives. That's a plus.

The right for bragging is a nice bonus and I just love to be a complete ecodriving geek. I don't se how my little contribution can help the growing enviroment problems, world economy or politics, but showing other people what actually can be done quite easily can definitely be a good start!
I agree with this. I enjoy to see those who speed past me furiously and then get stopped at the red light 100 yards ahead while I coast by them. Never gets old.

I also am frugal and like to save $ where I can.

Right on, brother! Nothing more fun than "reading" the road, lifting off the pedal and perfectly timing the green light, while my lead-footed brethren floor it all the way to the red light and then jam on the brakes, only to be passed by my Prius silently puttering past them in electric mode when the light turns green.

I don't give a whit about saving the planet, but I absolutely love depriving the oil companies (and the Arabs) of my hard earned money - not to mention my garage no longer smells like a refinery every time I pull into the garage, as it did with my beloved 1998 SUV.

Bragging rights! Fun!

Its fun to work on the car. It's fun to get the most out of an older car - especially a '94 Saturn (OMG - its from the last century!). Its fun to get better MPG than most newer cars.

Those two reasons for me, as well. It's a fun hobby. How many people do you know who can consistently break 30 MPG with a 4-liter Ford Mustang? I know ONE.

1930s Zepplin-punk!

I'm motivated to find a higher-mileage vehicle. This picture posted in a different thread today, for example, shows that a better world is possible:

Moar aero -> I can drive faster. I spend an hour to an hour and a half less time in the car each week if I do 75MPH instead of 55 MPH on the freeway. Can't drive as fast without better aero since my car's ECU goes open loop at around 60KPa.
