You know, you people get so many awesome tiny and/or diesel cars that are all forbidden fruit over here, it makes me crazy.

I'd appreciate a Citroen CX sent my way. Diesel, five speed, and an interpreter for when I have to call French people for parts.

I have the 1996 1.0i Debut (base model) Citroen AX, if you want my review of it, I have a write up in the My Garage section, and a thread somewhere in the Introduction section of the forum with pics.

Also when you say best used car, is that for FE or in general, because a crappy Citroen 2CV gets high mileage, though is polluting and unstable.
You say you get 65MPG from a corsa, that's good going, you really aren't going to get much better for £1000, i'm not even sure you'd get any better without buying a new fiesta econetic (65mpg) or vw lupo diesel (75mpg).

If you do go for an AX and are serious about modding contact MonsterAX on here, he's done quite a lot of mods to his AX, but hasn't documented most of them on here. It's not a bad car if you pick the right model, i'd go for one with 5 gears and power steering, i know those 2 things probably lower FE a bit, but after years without those 2 things i'd easily take the FE hit for the comfort. My user manual says they even made a 4x4 AX though i've never found a single page or pic of them so far on the web.

1.9D Polo - '94-'00 great car tall top gear, DeutchQuality Mien Heir!! (68MPGuk extra urban - standard)

Astra 1.7DTI (NOT the td)2000 onwards look at the figures for economy on Autotrader - they are pretty damned acurate, my '00 dti estate got 71 MPGuk on the Mway with no modds!!! (71MPGuk extra urban - standard)

lupo 1.4tdi 3cylinder very lucky if you can find one for under £1000. (74MPGuk extra urban - standard)

Pug106 1.4 diesel graduate, DON'T get a 1.5, not as economical. they can be picked up for £300upwards with Tax and test!!!! and I got stupid MPG out of my mates one and you can run them on Veg oil straight from the bottle!!!!!, or chip fat, or McDonalds used Shortening, or Red diesel, or avgas (70+MPGuk extra urban)

Smart LHD - two seater option..... left hookers / stolen-recovereds can be easily picked up for sub thousand notes! (??MPGuk extra urban)
