I think he is thinking of it like the concept with high performance cars. Such as a Nascar engine. They swap out every few races because almost max RPMs for so long. I understand the point of a car out of its comfortzone can be bad, but running a car low (600 rpm? Lol) can not be nearly as bad as pushing a car hard.

At 2000 rpm my Saturn single cam 1.9L 4 cylinder gasoline engine is cruising at 62 mph (100 kph) 20 mph is as slow as reasonable, that's about 640 rpm. It would be nice if is had another gear to bring it down to 1700 rpm or so at 100 kph
