What's up with these lights?

I've been seeing this style on cars lately. Do you think there is any aero reasons? Seems like an awfully expensive headlight to replace.

Aero, yes. Pretty,NO!!!! Newer headlight designs to me just look so BUSY under
the clear cover, that to me; totally detract from whatever else might have been an
attractive body design.
It grabs my eye away from the rest of the car, as older cars gas doors have ALWAYS
bugged me!!!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they are supposed to direct air around the mirrors.

Agreed. Cars today lack flavor, in general.

The new Chrysler 300 is worse than the previous. The 200 doesn't have a distinct flow, it's just a Sebring with a 300 body kit. The new Viper and Corvette have nothing on the European (or even Asian) counterparts, visually speaking. The full size American trucks have been the same thing for 15 years now, just different headlights and a bigger grille each year. All the fuel efficient vehicles are, as one described, as aesthetically pleasing as a 10 year old Hyundai.

Still waiting for a decent looking American two door car that doesn't have bigger hips than my 3rd grade teacher.

The Leaf's headlights are for directing air around the mirrors for noise purposes, not really efficiency.

The Spark... I've not heard any benefits so I'd guess styling.
