Why weight it on the bottom when the spindle is stationary?

Thanks for the schematic of the 2CV. The Avion uses one rear axle moved to the center. That would lose the fore and aft units working against each other, which I think is a really good idea. An example from the Austin 1800:


And another that's similar, this one custom using VW lower arms and spindles:
