72 mpg in 2-way test

Finally finished (maybe) the warm air intake. Went out and tested it. The highest intake air temp reading I got on the ScanGauge with it was around 120 (outside air temp. was probably about 78). But it was usually around 105 to 110 or so. Rather than trying to get it even warmer, I think I might just keep it like this during the summer until I get real confident about the temps while climbing mountains, etc - and in hotter weather, like when it hits 100.

I did two out & back test runs on my regular course in Washoe Valley, but the wind was blowing, so I wasn't happy about that. Anyway, I did two sets of "out & back" runs at 30 mph, my previously determined maximum mpg speed:
NB - SB - Avg
73.6 - 70.2 - 71.9
74.1 - 70.3 - 72.2
overall avg. 72.05

This is a new all time record for 2-way testing in the 'Gnat. When I did it before and slightly exceeded 70, that was the record at the time.

Next, I took some cardboard and tried a mock-up air dam. I didn't have enough to go all the way out to the sides of the car, or angle it back the way I wanted to, but what the hell? Still at 30 mph:
NB - SB - Avg
71.5 - 72.0 - 71.75
75.6 - 72.3 - 73.95
overall avg. 72.85

So there's a slight improvement, and I tell myself "aero" won't show up too much at 30 mph anyway.

So, I wonder, how close does this get me to my "55-55" goal (55 mpg at 55 mph). So I run it again at 55:
NB - SB - Avg
53.0 - 51.1 - 52.05
53.3 - 54.4 - 53.85
overall avg. 52.95

So more work is needed to get that 55 at 55 goal, but it's encouraging to see improvement! Not sure if I ever did a careful test before, but I can remember thinking the best I could get at 55 was about 51 mpg.
