Why are 9v batteries so expensive?

Mom's carbon monoxide detector started chirping, so she picked up a two-pack of batteries at Walmart. I would not expect to find cheaper prices elsewhere. I do not know if our local dollar store has them, but Dollar General and Family Dollar show $8 for two on their website, just like Walmart:

Duracell Coppertop Alkaline 9V Batteries 2 Pack $7.98

She noticed that they were $18 for two at Safeway.

Amazon to the rescue!

AmazonBasics 9 Volt Performance Alkaline Batteries - Pack of 8 for $10.99

Which would have been great if we wanted to listen to the chirping for 48 hours.

By the way, we completely forgot that we bought a carbon monoxide detector. We thought it was the smoke detector in the kitchen, by Mom's bedroom door. Then I tried the one just inside her door. I did not think that it was the one in the tiny hallway on the other side of the house or just inside each of our bedrooms, each five feet from the one in the hallway.

Why are they in clusters?!

So, at one point, I had all five smoke detector in front of me on a table, and then I heard a chirp from somewhere behind me.

Eventually Mom remembered the carbon monoxide detector [that I bought] and said that it was plugged into an outlet somewhere, but there were definitely not any detectors plugged anywhere near the chirping.

Then she found it broken on the counter under a loaf of bread.

That's why I don't buy batteries in stores. Those are among the highest markup items.

Can you live without 1 detector for the 2 days Amazon takes to ship?

I'm mostly done replacing all of the 15 year old detectors in my house. Supposedly they have a life of 10 years, but I would't be surprised if it's more like 20.

I don't use cheep alkaline batteries in CO and smoke detectors after running into inconsistent quality, such as batteries lasting as little as a few days.
Now I only use the energizer lithium batteries in smoke detectors they last years.
I say make sure you have a smoke detector above the clothes dryer and hot water heater those are the 2 main fire starters outside of the kitchen.

My preference is alpha emitter based tech. It's worked for more than 50 years and they are boarder line too sensitive.

So we can talk about batteries but not cl*m*t* ch*ng*? This song came out in 2010. The cl*m*t* ch*ng* thread didn't even start until 2015.

It's about pollution which is caused partly by zinc-carbon disposable battery technology.

It wasn't the topic, it was the discourse and demeanor.

I thought it was when I pointed to the JCPenny ad with the school girl outfit with the knotted halter top and plaid miniskirt, and asked if I could start posting comparables. A matter of perspective I suppose.

Anywho, Litesoff is gone so I started a new thread on a totally unrelated topic.

On a tangent, I listened to some Alex Epstein Youtube videos today and enjoyed his pointers of persuasion.

-Don't argue to 0. The goal isn't to debunk the infinite criticisms leveled against an idea to ultimately come from a negative point get to a zero point, but to start from 0 and shoot for 100.

-Don't just accept someone else's framing of reality. Whoever frames reality is most persuasive. That means critically evaluating the frames that we take for granted to see if they are correct, or if there's a larger picture that can better frame reality.

...need to finish it before I complete me thoughts here.

Counting down the days myself, but the best success I'd had was showing that the Grand Canyon was created via electrical discharge machining so I started the Cosmic Disaster thread. Eventually we will be able to talk about the consortium of 250 news organs that conspired to promote G. Thunberg.

The way Scott Adams puts it is if they have 10 reasons ask for the best one, If they can't pick one you can dismiss all of them. Because if you debunk your way down the stack they will just go back to the top.

[Lyn Slater is still following me around but the JCPenny ads aren't]

I completely missed those JC Penny ads. That does not seem like a good thing to ask the Google Box.
