Why is Equinox EV 1200 lb heavier than Bolt EUV?

The title says it all. The Equinox is a similar size to the Bolt EUV so why is its curb weight 1200 pounds higher? Is GM moving in the right direction with their EV tech?

Happy 4th!

I'm not sure. One might be safety reasons. It's cheaper to just make cars heavier to get better safety (for the occupants, who cares about who you run into).

The Bolt is classified as a sub-compact vehicle and the Equinox is considered a compact vehicle.

In a way that us people who have seen a few vehicles, the geo/chevy metro is a sub-compact car, and the chevy cavalier is a compact car.

Hope this helps clear this up

Without ever having seeing either in person makes it hard to tell.

' 1,200-lbs '

It's an 'SUV', rather than a 'station wagon'.
It must be engineered to satisfy the structural requirements for 'off-road' capabilities.
It' also a 'weight-class' 'larger' than the BOLT, along with the 'class' jump in projected frontal area ( taller & wider ).
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a direct competitor, and a 'benchmark' for the Equinox R&D specifications.
Where I live, the dealers won't even mention the Equinox BEV, just the 'gas-burner'.
For the EV, they want to sell 'Blazers.'

The Blazer is another 1,000 pounds heavier. 5,000-something.

Telo Trucks is developing electric pickup trucks that are truly compact, in contrast to those currently available (whose enormity, in fairness, reflect general trends and perverse incentives). They have five foot beds, as large as a Tacoma's, but the vehicle's total length is the same as a Mini Cooper's.

Standard crew-cab 5-seat, 5-foot bed capacity with a configurable mid-partition that either increases bed size to accommodate 4' x 8' plywood sheets with the tailgate up, or allows for additional seating for up to 8 passengers.

' Telo '

If one plans to drive their truck over 35-mph, I'd avoid the Telo.

Equinox EV: 191.6" long x 77" wide x 64.8" tall with 85 kWh battery
Bolt EUV: 169.5 long x 69.7 wide x 63.8" tall with 66 kWh battery

Yes, GM is moving in the right direction with the EVs if you actually want to sell EVs to the masses. The Compact Crossover is the most popular market segment in the USA followed by the Midsize Crossover (which the Blazer EV targets)

20" longer and 7" wider isn't similar size. Leave it to Jason to inform misconceptions.

The Bolt has among the smallest batteries offered these days. It was the first "$35k" EV; a target for which Tesla was aiming for.
