Even in places with a warmer climate, at the higher altitudes flown by modern aircraft with a pressurized fuselage there is a lot of ice buildup issues to overcome.

Without reviewing the link, that is referring to primarily lift enhancement under varying conditions, rather than outright drag reduction as the main focus on this thread, meaning its not really applicable to the original goal here? Be kind, I did open the link.
