Wisconsin HWY J miles of wooded land cleared due to recreational tax

I've been noticing miles of lifelong forest land not only clear cut but all the roots and stumps pulled as well

Then a cover crop planted.

When I asked the land was owned by a farmer who was getting burned by a 10x increase in property taxes called
Recreational tax
Which is levied on farmland with trees on it in a variety of locations.

I have tried to determine where/when/how recreational tax is levied but haven't found much.

If this is going on I think a rather swift kick in the behinder is justified and some public outrage should go to the reps who pushed through such ideotic legislation.

Ah well, time to clear cut the state again

Levying an extra tax on woodlands? That's quite pointless. Well, many foreign companies are either buying woodlands here in Brazil or sponsoring their owners to keep them unharmed in order to deal "carbon credits".

Forest Tax Rates - Wisconsin DNR

I think this is what they are talking about, $10/acre, in liew of property tax, I wonder if the property tax was cheaper due to low land value... not to mention the income from the logging.

Turns out this is a special county property tax levied on specific zoning types if left fallow
