WOW - What a difference
Its that time of year to do my maintenance (check timing, set tappets etc..)
TIMING: stock:8btdc, maintenance check:10btdc I run 12 btdc (on 87ron (91 ron in nz) no pinking tappets: reset tappets to stock clearances THE CARB: jets were rediculously dirty, cleaned them out with carb cleaner, checked the fuel adjustment screw, HOLY CRAP ITS ALL THE WAY OUT, A/F ratio was 11.5/1!!!!!!!!!! (omg and i was still getting 35mpg) have leaned carb to about 14/1 (have to compensate for driving) but wow!!!!, i cant believe the a/f ratio was that bad, im glad i do maintenace checks, i have more power and it starts better now as well, Will have f/e numbers up soon, keep an eye on my graph, hopefully it will go up :) |
...I'm curious, what instrument did you use to determine the A/F ratio was 11.5:1 (at idle?).
|
I have a friend that owns a rolling road dyno
every year I use it for maintenance a/f was done by a teter up the tasilpipe 11.5/1 a/f ratio was actually done at 60kph (roughly 35mph) when tested at idle it was roughly 12.7ish Why do you ask mate |
...because I was wondering *if* a new MPG-meter had been devised that was somehow (?) able to derive or calculate A/F from data extracted from the OBD-II connection.
...I didn't think it was possible--but, I've been wrong LOTS of times--so I asked. |
Nice find. I'm sure that tune up will help!

um... my cars 29 years old bro,
i used words like carb, obd2 and carb just doesn't go together, judging by the cars you have im sure you know how to work on the 'old faithfuls |
"Does your car have an OBDII hookup?"
"Yes. It's in the passenger seat. I found it at a junkyard for $5." That's where I am. Josie's version of OBDII is a flowmaster muffler (Earbone Tech Tacho Systems patent pending), whatever crusty ol' Sears timing light I can hook up to the #1 plug wire, and a notebook. |
...I'll take that response as: "...nope, nothing but old-fashioned tools..."

timing

after i put in a new dizzy i set time by ear,, no plink .. did not run very good at low RPM's ,, when i checked it with a light it was at 60 BTDC can you imagine , engine running at 60 BTDC and no ping/plink ..there is an additive jar attached to the intake manifold that i put different *stuff* [var. mixtures of fluids] to which i attribute the no-ping ..
set for 20 BTDC and runs so very much better ,getting quite good FE next time i fuel i get a reading. here is high tech tools these parts tried var. methods of setting the mixture ,, engine speed/ vacuum gage ..now trying to set mixture using the EGT[exhaust Gas temp] set for LOP[lean of peak] a AFR would be nice but pricey ,, http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1312739111 |

my engine doesnt seem to like static timing so I might have a gander at the timing chain and see whats going on, maybe it has stretched |
