A 0.12 Cd Auto Body model You Tube video

Phillip Knox and I (John Gilkison) shot a You Tube video in my garage of his 0.12 Cd Auto Body model on the 26th of Sept. 2017. I posted it and then I posted a blog at EV World today on the same subject with a link to the video also.

Here is the link to the EV World Blog on the same subject. Phil tested this model at the Darko Wind Tunnel and it tested out to be a 0.12 Cd body form. The relevant information is contained in both the video and the blog. Enjoy!

Thanks. I've been watching for the result[s]. 40 views at this time.

The part I was waiting for was the difference with the stinger off. It looked to me like the reflex tail was buried in turbulent wake, so I'm expecting the difference to be small.

And I didn't understand about your other interests. I'm off to see some of your other videos.

Edit:
EV kWh rates equivalency for cost of gasoline

Thanks for starting at 5¢/kWh, I'm paying 5.4¢. Across the bridge in the Big City it's twice that.

Seeing your interest in EVs, I have to ask; what do you think about the Highlander/Lexus rear axle and the Buick Lacrosse altermotor?

2nd edit:
What do you think the Darko folks would think if someone came in with their own 4x8ft 3"-thick rolling roadway?

Even if one doesn't build a vehicle like this, it would make a fine car top carrier.

numbers

When the drag force was associated with the actual frontal area,the drag came out at:
* Cd 0.1209 for the long tail
* Cd 0.1487 for the truncated tail
* Delta 0.0278
* Delta 22.9%
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rolf Buchheim's 1981 VW 'Flow' body registered
* Cd 0.14 for the long tail
* Cd 0.15 for the truncated tail.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baby has wider tires than the 'Flow' (215mm vs 155mm),but full wheel fairings,which helps explain the lower long tail Cd in spite of the mutilation which accommodates taillights and license plate.
The truncated values are quite similar.
Cambridge University's CUER scores Cd 0.11 with skinny solar race tires.
When we can get the video of the smoke flow up,you'll want to bear in mind,that you'll be looking at is 30-mph,sub-critical Reynolds number, high-drag laminar boundary conditions.
Only with the full 570-hp fans screaming at maximum thrust does Baby see critical Reynolds number,full,turbulent boundary layer,low-drag flow.
Too bad we can't do smoke imaging for that.

Only Layne would know.
I do suspect that it would need to be flush with the tunnel floor.Very problematic.
BMW uses independent wheels rolling on the 'floor',while the actual, car body is supported and measured independently from an overhead 'sting.'
Gene HAAS Racing charges $3,600/hour for their rolling-road tunnel in North Carolina.
And scale models cost as much as a real vehicle,so you might as well test the real thing.

I poked at a calculator. Does 22.9% penalty for removing the tail sound right?

After I posted about the rolling roadway, I laid awake trying to think of some way to get through the roadway to the sensor posts. Let the record show I've had bad ideas before.
