'07 Yaris Aero-mods

Ok so I thought i better start a thread instead of hijacking the eco-ceed thread

**photoshop skills suck from here on

I have these spots where I guess fog lights are to be mounted on my car, I would like to cover them over, its seems kinda like pushing little parachutes down the road.



maybe when I am all done I'll end up with something like this



maybe you guys can help me out, on the small air dams in front of the rear tires its flat; wouldn't it better to angle that piece to direct the air to the side or more of an angle down instead of being just a blunt surface?

looking straight down:


better?


and in general is it better to send the air down or out away from the car?

Looks good.

The air dams may be more efficient when angled, but it would really take testing to know for sure.

An angle is always better than a flat plate, and pushing air away from the car is better than pushing it under.

I used bug spats to find out whats not directing air around very well.. gives you a good ide of where to improve upon.

Here is a one minute Photochop of a Yaris that I did a while back. I chose to use the Toyota emblem as the air intake for the grille.



( Or you could make the brake vent holes in the bumper functional in cooling the engine. )

Good ideas, but how is the engine supposed to be cooled if the radiator isn't getting enough air?

Thats the part you have to experiment with. Cars are built with a giant factor of safety, i.e. running in Death Valley in the summer and still be cool, so in general its ok to block at least part of the grill. In the winter you can sometimes get away with a complete block.

imho what you want on the 'perfect' car that's buildable today is an active grillblock... something that's closed all of the time but when you do get stuck in Death Valley you got as much radiator exposure as needed in such a situation. that will give you all the aero advantages of a full grillblock and perhaps better coolign than wat is now standard in extreme conditions....

also exit ducts for the radiator air rather than just dumping it into the engine bay and leaving it to it's own device are "doable" things that might reduce cooling drag significantly, and may require little more than some plastic panels
