Diesel Power Magazine Fuel Economy Shootout

Ok, so last year we had this competition, and got some good feedback. So we're doing it again. The rules are simple, we're going to take a drive (probably along the california coast, or to Las Vegas) from Los Angeles, and see what kind of fuel economy we can get out of diesel-powered vehicles. There will be a class for 3/4 and 1-ton diesel trucks, and also for other cars like TDI VW's. Anyone that has a diesel hybrid, motorcycle, or whatever is encouraged to enter. We're expecting mostly TDIs, although it would be nice to see some crazy diesel 3 wheelers or something out there. If you're interested, and you can be in the Los Angeles area on some weekend in April or May, let me know on this thread!! Diesel ecomodders here is your chance!

I'll let you know the date as soon as it is confirmed.

Here's last year's article on the challenge, only trucks showed up, but we're expecting some cars this year......

I’m game, even though it’s a three day drive out and three days back. I need at least a couple weeks’ lead time. Late May or even early June is best.

I'll throw in $10 for your gas if you go, Dave. It would be great to get your mods out there for other trucks; small improvements in mpg there are so much more important than those for small cars.

Not to tell your bidness JQmile...awww, what the hey... do it anyway.

A 180 mile run was OK for five vehicles, but if you expect maybe 20-30, a run that short will leave you with a bunch of two and three way ties. The longer the run the more the cream rises to the top. Also, with more fill-ups the more the fueling inconsistencies average out.
